Ellen, Jan, Gary
Note: I did not take pictures of our complete meal.
Skatewing w/wild rice, spinach, caper brown butter
2002 Chablis, Domaine Sainte Claire, Jean Marc Brocard Burgundy with the
first two courses.
Ellen and Jan had lobster salad (Warm Lobster Salad, Petite Salade, Ginger Shallot Vinaigrette) The lobster was very tender, just barely cooked, perfect to my taste.
I had the Lyonnaise, both were excellent.
2000 Burgundy, Savigny-Les-Beaune with our
entrees
Ellen and Jan split an Arugla salad, I had foie gras. (Seared Foie Gras Petite
Salade, Blackberry Compote, Orange Reduction) I had a small pour of sauterne
with the foie gras. Only slight wrinkle was they brought my sauterne fully
5-minutes after the foie gras and it got a bit cold.
Ellen had Red Grouper w/sauteed fennel, sweet potato puree and orange beurre
blanc. Jan Hanger steak, but sauce on the side, left whole and sub fries for
mashed, same as my typical hanger steak order. I had Skate wing, which was
terrific. Sauteed Skatewing, wild rice, spinach, caper brown butter. Only,
slight, problem was the wild rice was cold, but the skate and capers more than
made up for that.
Ellen had chocolate souffle with creme anglaise, Jan the trio of sorbets, though
they were out of Fruit's of the Forest, so she got two coconuts and one
strawberry, small scoops. I had ice cream. Lavender, cardamom, ginger. I did not
like the lavender, reminded me of the rose water in Indian desserts.
Pre dinner drinks at the bar Lillet for Jan and Ellen, vodka martini straight
up, with blue cheese olives for me. The martini tasted a wee bit watery.
